THE ALASKA MOTLEY GROUP is a group of amateur radio operators who meet nightly at 2100 hours on 3.933 megahertz, to make contacts, share stories, discuss technical items or anything else that may be of interest to the group. A group control operator is on frequency to stimulate discussion, keep a record of check-ins and designate a red lantern winner.
The Motley Group also conducts an annual picnic, to provide an opportunity for Ham radio operators to meet and fellowship. The Motley Group is unorganized, and therefore has no elected officers, no charter and no membership fees. The group manager and group control operators are all volunteers. The Motley Group evolved from a “rag-chew” group that had a nightly schedule on 75 meters in the early 1980s. The first night the “rag-chew” was designated the Motley Group was January 29, 1982.
All Licensed amateur radio operators are welcome to participate in the nightly Motley Group sessions and attend the annual picnic.
